Things You Should Know About Me #1735: I love Fall Out Boy. It’s my absolute favourite band of ever. And after being inspired by a recent book tag that I participated in, I thought I’d create my own original book tag featuring Fall Out Boy songs.
To those of you who’ve been living under a rock and have miraculously never heard of FOB, it is a, well, finger-in-ever-pie sort of band when it comes to defining its genre. It depends on the album, really. But, basically, FOB has dabbled in pop-punk (fusion genre), pop rock and even emo. Yes, they’re weird and yes, I love them all the more for it.
So, prepare for long titles, strange lyrics and whole lot of meta.
Without further ado, let’s begin.
#1 Champagne For My Real Friends and Real Pain For My Sham Friends – Series with Epic Friendships
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the pun in that song title?? You must realize that, if a mere song title can contain this much glory, then how much more will the actual songs contain? They’re gold.
Anyways, this is a book blog, so let’s talk about books. I’ve read many series with beautifully written friendships, but the one that sticks out most is The Raven Cycle. I mean the boys, and girl, are just a perfect example of One for all and All for one.
They literally bury a body together?? It doesn’t get more epic than that.
Also, Ronan throwing Noah out the window is model behaviour right there. Gansey just keeps pushing all of them to do more and they all go along with whatever crazy shit Gansey suggests in the search for Glendower. And even when Blue was fairy new to the group, the boys were all so warm and welcoming (each in their own way). And Adam literally goes out in the middle of the night, risking being hit by his abusive father, to search for Ronan. And, like, all of Ronan’s creations just adore the fuck out of all of his friends. Blue and Ronan’s friendhip is something extra special.
Look, I could go on and on about how amazing the TRC gang is and how larger than life their relationships with one another are. I love those dorks.
Strike us like matches, cause everyone deserves the flames
We only do it for the scars and stories, not the fame
At least everyone is trying, everyone is shining
Everyone deserves the flames but it’s such a shame
Such a shame
#2 Thriller – Mainstream Series that I Want to Read
As some of you know, I’m only a mere hatchling in the book world. I only started reading ardently in 2016. As a result, I have a lot of series to catch up on. Series that seem like everyone’s read them already. This list could go really long but the most pressing one on it is the Shades of Magic series.
Before I expand on that, let me just flail over the fact that VE Schwab recently signed a huge new deal. Apparently, she’ll be adding to the Shades of Magic world with a new series called Threads of Power and also have a new book about a female assassin, set in futuristic New York. I’m just wildly happy for her.
I read the Monsters of Verity duology in July and I fell in love with Schwab’s writing and the worlds she builds. She’s my second favourite author and I’ve read only two of her books so far?? ‘TIS A SHAME. I hope to remedy that as soon as possible.
Crowds are won and lost and won again
But our hearts beat for the diehards
So long live the car crash hearts
Cry on the couch all the poets come to life
Fix me in 45
#3 I’ve Got a Dark Alley and A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth – Temperamental Characters who make Bad Decisions™
Look, I warned you about the long titles, One Behind The Screen. You can’t complain now.
To those of you who’ve read my blog, or my IG captions, before, the answer to this should be obvious: Throne of Glass series. And if you think that I specifically tailored this tag to fit in Sarah J. Maas books, then…. You’re absolutely right, you clever artichoke.
Does Aelin Ashryver Galathynius have a terrible temper? Yes. Does she make equally terrible decisions?? Hell yes. Do I love her for it? Also, yes. #SorryNotSorry
I have never related harder to a fictional character, tbh. I mean, I, too, want an empire.
Also, can we take a second to process the fact that Tower of Dawn will be out in literally less than a week!?!?!?! I’m not mentally prepared but at the same time I need to devour the book this instant.
We’re the kids who feel like dead ends
And I want to be known for my hits, not just my misses
I took a shot and didn’t even come close
At trust and love and hope
#4 Immortals – Series That Will Be Considered Classic
yelled said it before and I’ll say it again: The Harry Potter series is undying. It’s just one of those things that will never go away, and rightfully so.
Every major character ever written will be sorted into houses. Every time someone yells dragon, at least twenty people will be reminded of Charlie Weasley. The Draco memes will keep on coming. Old memes will resurface as though the Resurrection Stone itself had a part to play. The moon moon thing will continue to be adorable. Headcannons will continue to multiply. Let’s face it: Harry Potter has all but taken over the world.
And when the next generation comes along, we’ll be right there introducing Harry to all the tiny, little ones, who will wait for their Hogwarts acceptance letters. And, you know, be cruelly disappointed. Or, perhaps, they’ll learn to live in denial.
Like yours truly.
They say we are what we are
But we don’t have to be.
I’m bad behavior but I do it in the best way.
Also, can I just say how fitting Immortals is for the Marauders???
#5 Dead On Arrival – Series With An Insane Amount of Dead People
No series deserves this honour more than the A Song of Ice and Fire.
The books literally have an Army of the Dead™????? Also, the number of people GRRM has killed. #GOALS
According to this, there are 277 named characters alone who are dead. *slow clap*
Also, see how expertly I talked about a series I haven’t read yet, but have only watched???
Please don’t kill me.
This is side one
Flip me over
I know i’m not your favorite record
The songs you grow to like never stick at first
So i’m writing you a chorus
And here is your verse
#6 Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year – Sassy Characters
You know what a good book always has?? SASS. Also, you know, an interesting plot. But mostly just SASS. This is an accurate analysis.
Half the sass I have may be inborn talent, but the rest was honed by various YA characters of all ages. Primarily by, like, every sentence ever uttered by Percy Jackson.
Poseidon may be god of the seas and everything, but no one is saltier that Percy. The kid literally resorts to sarcasm when he’s about to die?? Which, admittedly, is every other minute, but still.
I aspire to be on Percy’s level someday.
Are we growing up or just going down?
It’s just a matter of time until we’re all found out
#7 I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me – Series with Sinking Ships
You know how we shipped Cal and Mare?? And then we shipped Maven and Mare?? And then we shipped Cal and Mare again??
And then Mare literally said screw this and created Team Mare? Awesomeness.
I know that this was not the first series to feature a female who needs no man (looking at you, THG. I’m saving you for later), but I have to admit, the moment was glorious.
I cannot wait for Red Queen 4. I neeeeeeeeed to know what happens next in this series that combines almost every YA trope of ever.
I’m the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends
And I am sorry my conscience called in sick again
And I’ve got arrogance down to a science
Oh, and I’m the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends, now
#8 Of All The Gin Joints In All The World – Series with Ardently Drunk Characters
Enter The Hunger Games trilogy.
Everyone keeps flailing over Peeta, whom I don’t really like (#UnpopularOpinion), and over Katniss, who is truly amazing, yes, but my favourite character remains Haymitch. I feel like he is so underrated??
We need to talk about Haymitch more. He actually won The Hunger Games once. He genuinely cares for Katniss and Peeta and even Effie. He is a Huge Jerk™. He goes around casually dropping golden advice like the time he allied with Finnick and the time when he suggested stuff for the Mockingjay campaign videos while sober.
Haymitch Abernathy, people.
You only hold me up like this
Cause you don’t know who I really am
I used to waste my time on
Waste my time on
Waste my time dreaming of being alive
#9 Thnks Fr Th Mmrs – Favourite Series of Ever
If you’ve spent even one proper minute on my blog, kind mortal, you’d know that my one true love is the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
I won’t go too deep into it because advertising my affection feels like a betrayal (subtle TFIOS reference).
But I will say that I’m very impatiently waiting for the ACOTAR novella set to release in May, 2018. Also, remember that time SJM told us she’s writing a Chaol “novella” and it turned out to be a full size novel?? I’m hoping she does it again.
And I want these words to make things right
But it’s the wrongs that make the words come to life
#10 Honorable Mention – Honorable Mention
Consider this as a sort of freebie. I wanted to talk about the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series.
I started it yesterday and I’m a hundred pages in and may I just say, dude, Laini Taylor is awe inspiring. I have no idea why I didn’t read her books sooner The world building so far is genius and I’m mesmerized.
I particularly adore the way she shows Prague. I remember vaguely being interested in it once, but now I’m planning on moving to the Czech Republic. #SENDHELP
I served out my detention
And in the end I got an honorable mention
